The United Arab Emirates, a federation of trade cities
The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates, with trade, logistics, tourism and energy at the core of its economy. Its fairs are held mainly in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, in exhibition centers.
The country is a federation formed by seven emirates on the Gulf coast, each with its own ruler and economic role. Abu Dhabi holds most of the oil and gas reserves and the federal capital, while Dubai built its position on ports, aviation, re-export trade and tourism. Sharjah is known for culture. International airlines connect the main cities to Europe, Asia and Africa. Dubai hosts many of the events, most of them at the Dubai World Trade Centre and the Dubai Exhibition Centre. They include the Middle East Organic & Natural Expo, ISM Middle East for sweets and snacks, The Mining Show and AgroFarm Middle East. Jewelry and consumer events such as Jewellery & Bride Arabia and the Dubai Muscle Show complete the offer.
Abu Dhabi is the setting for energy and utilities. ADIPEC brings the oil, gas and energy industry to ADNEC every year, and the World Utilities Congress addresses power and water utilities. These events place the emirate within the energy and environment calendar. Sharjah hosts the Hive Furniture Show, a furniture trade fair, at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Education and fashion are further strands. Universities and training providers appear in the education and careers fairs, and the fashion, beauty and luxury shows cover retail and luxury trade. Many events take place between October and spring, when summer heat has passed.
