The Netherlands, a trading country and its fairgrounds
The Netherlands is a trading nation built on its ports, logistics, horticulture and services. Trade fairs are held in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Gorinchem, among other places, in fields such as transport, flowers, wine and sports.
The Dutch economy rests on international trade. Rotterdam is one of Europe's main seaports, Amsterdam Schiphol is a major air hub serving Amsterdam, and the country is a center for logistics, agriculture and horticulture, water engineering and financial services. Distances are short and the rail network is dense.
RAI Amsterdam is the exhibition complex of the capital. MRO Europe is a conference and exhibition for the commercial aviation aftermarket, IFTF is a business-only exhibition for the international flower industry, and World Bulk Wine Exhibition serves the bulk wine and spirits trade, organized by Vinexposium and held every year over two days. The surrounding North Holland region adds more.
Utrecht, in the middle of the country, uses Jaarbeurs for trade events, and Gorinchem has the Evenementenhal as a venue. Rotterdam brings its port into the picture with Intermodal Europe, an exhibition and conference for container shipping, transport and intermodal logistics. See Utrecht and South Holland for events outside the capital.
Other towns also host specialist shows. Recreatie Vakbeurs in Hardenberg is a trade fair for the recreation industry, aimed at holiday parks, campsites and attractions, and Festivak in 's-Hertogenbosch brings organizers of festivals and business events together with suppliers. Related events are grouped under arts and collectibles fairs in the Netherlands, among them PAN Amsterdam, an annual fair for art, antiques and design.
